Start your ride at Liberty!

Now that the season is in full swing, and we’re open 7 days a week here at Liberty, we’re seeing more and more people meeting up in our lot for their weekend rides. And ya know what? We think it’s an awesome idea!

From Liberty HOG 12th Annual Toy Run 2010
In fact, if you let us know you’re coming, and how many are in your group, we can make sure we have coffee on – maybe even some donut holes – so that you can relax and get your ride started right.

We also have a new section of the website for local Biker events in the area. We still have the Liberty events section, but we’ve expanded it to include other events in the area, kinda like a “virtual” flyer spinner. You can even use it to share events via Facebook! So if you’re sponsoring a local run, stop by with a few flyers and we’ll pop them in our flyer stand by the coffeepot – and we’ll also post them on our website. You can also submit the info online!

Visit us online at www.libertyharley.com/info/events or give Paul a call at 732-381-2400, ext 34, for more information or to submit your ride! You can also send a pdf of the flyer to paul@libertyharley.com.

And make sure you check out the site for all the upcoming events in the area!

Hot Rods and Harleys Filled the Streets of Downtown Rahway

Despite the threat of a downpour, thousands of people filled the streets of Downtown Rahway for Hot Rods and Harleys this weekend. Hot custom bikes filled the Rahway Train Station Plaza, and the classic cars and hot rods lined the closed-to-traffic streets of downtown. And of course, the weather held throughout the day.

"I think it’s great, how many people came out even though they thought it would be a rainout. Seeing the streets of Downtown Rahway filled with people, families, it’s just a wonderful event," said Tom McTamney of the Rahway Center Partnership. Live music from five different bands filled the area, and people roamed the streets.

And it wasn’t just for the grown-ups! There was a "kids only" section featuring a bouncy house and all kinds of fun for the little ones. The vendors lined the streets, and the aromas of all the tasty treats available drifted all over town. The local restaurants and taverns took to the sidewalks, giving people a small sample of what they had to offer.

"The weather has so much to do with an event like this, but I wouldn’t hesitate to call it a success – again! It continues to be the premier event that Rahway has to offer, and I can’t wait to do it again next year!" said Tom.

Special thanks go out to all the sponsors, including RSI Bank, Northfield Bank, and Liberty Harley-Davidson, and also to the Rahway Arts District for all their help promoting the event, and to all the volunteers at the Rahway Center Partnership who worked so hard to make the event a success. And a very special thanks to the employees of the Rahway DPW and Rahway’s Police for giving up their Saturday to ensure the event was kept safe and clean for all the attendees.

Rent a Harley! An afternoon, a day, a week, or longer!

Located within Liberty’s service department, you’ll find an EagleRider Rentals booth. Never considered renting a Harley? Well, why not take a moment and think about it?

  • What do I need to rent a Harley?
You need a valid driver’s license with a motorcycle endorsement. You also need to be 21 years old, and you need to have a credit card capable of being authorized for the security deposit. You need to be open to fun and excitement, and you need to be ready for an adventure. We’ll supply a helmet, a set of raingear (just in case!) and emergency roadside assistance (just in case!). Most models can be equipped with a GPS, available for a per-day fee.

  • What models do you have?
The fleet changes from year to year, but generally, we have Electra Glides, Road Kings, Street Glides, Heritage Softails, and a Sportster. Best bet is to plan ahead, especially during the busy July and August months, and make your reservation to firm up your model choice.

  • Isn’t it kinda expensive?
Well, it depends on your perspective. It’s less of an investment than purchasing a Harley, and less of a commitment. But – ALL of the fun! Keep an eye out for “Hot Deals” offered both by Liberty and by EagleRider corporate – you can watch for them on the EagleRider website. If you feel like taking a small trip, you can usually get a GREAT deal on a one-way back to Liberty, from places like L.A., New Orleans or Orlando*. We also have a midweek special to save you some money if you rent during the week.

  • But I already have a bike!
That’s OK – we won’t tell her. :) But seriously, why not try something new? People who have a Cruiser may want to take a long weekend on a Touring-style bike and take advantage of the storage. People who already have a Dresser might enjoy a few days of cruising on a Softail. Did you know that if you rent a bike from Liberty and decide to buy one, you can apply up to a day’s rental toward the purchase?** Find out more from our Sales Department – ask about the “Try before you Buy” program today!

Did you know:

SO much going on in May!

May means a lot of things to a lot of people. But in the motorcycle world, it’s jam-packed with events, rides, runs, and adventure. The weather is warming up (and drying up!) and it’s time to RIDE!

May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, to begin with, and according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, “Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month is a national initiative aimed at getting motorists and motorcyclists to "share the road" with each other.” Initiatives nationwide are aimed at raising awareness among car and truck drivers that motorcycles are on the road, and have exactly the same rights as any other vehicle. We see motorcycles on the road, but the average car driver doesn’t seem to, as we all know, sadly, someone who was unseen by another driver at a critical moment. As riders we have to be hyper-vigilant when we ride, and can’t afford to lose our focus. You can get lots of safety tips by visiting the Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s website – or maybe even brush up your skills with an Advanced Rider Course.

May is also Women Riders Month! More women than ever are grabbing the handlebars for themselves, and May is a celebration of this new population of riders. On May 14th, women from across the globe will come together to celebrate women riders. There’s no reason to wait another day if you’ve been dreaming of riding. You can visit Harley-Davidson’s Women Rider website, or find a local Rider Safety Course. Or, start with a Garage Party – a special Ladies Night where you can learn all about riding among other women, women who either ride, or want to ride, or think they may want to ride someday. Ask your questions, get your answers, all in a no-pressure event, complete with munchies. And then, Jump on the Jumpstart!

From Hot Rods and Harleys 2010
More locally, May means Hot Rods and Harleys in Downtown Rahway! Saturday, May 14th from 11am to 6pm, join 10,000+ of your closest friends and enjoy a Bike Show, Classic Car Show, live music all around town, street vendors, and all around good times! So far, we know that World Within will be playing the train station, and One Too Many will be downtown. We know the local taverns will be having specials all day, and the Union County Performing Arts Center is putting on a 70’s Tribute Band show on the night before, and a Doo Wop Spectacular that night. Visit the UCPAC website for all the info!

Liberty’s also getting in the Summer Line of clothing and gear – and it’s HOT! We’ve got a great selection of Men’s and Ladies’ clothing, and all the brand-new Summer Gear is arriving daily. We’ve got clothing for the whole family – including kids and the family pet. Everyone loves Harley.

Here’s wishing YOU an awesome riding season – why not make this the year you check out Laconia, or Sturgis, or Biketoberfest? Think of all the things you haven’t seen – or haven’t seen from a Harley. But most of all, make sure you have a SAFE riding season.

We hope to see you soon!
